Who are Emerald and Ruby?

You probably have not yet heard of Emerald and Ruby, two underwater Queens. In the land of Rainbow Splash, down in the depths of the ocean where nobody dares to venture, the ocean is separated into two main regions. The first is called Kanashimi, which is the Japanese word for sorrow. Indeed, the region of Kanashimi is a harsh place where only those of the coldest hearts can thrive.
The second region, called Alegria (which means joy in Portuguese) is a pleasant place to reside in and is home to the most beautiful underwater sights you could ever think of.

Emerald- Queen of Alegria

The Queen of Alegria is a mermaid. In the waters of Rainbow Splash, mermaids are not uncommon and add to the mystical vibe of the oceans. Emerald was exceptionally kind-hearted since she was born and was therefore chosen as the new Queen. She is also Ruby's older sister, but is the polar opposite of her. Emerald was 4 when Ruby was born. When Ruby was just 8 years old, she started using her mermaid abilities... but for the worse. When Emerald was asleep, Ruby sneaked up on her and drained all the water surrounding her bed. Though it almost killed Emerald, Ruby could not bear to see her older sister, who was so caring to her, suffer and die- proving that despite her sinister activity, Ruby did have a heart deep down inside. Ruby restored the water and saved Emerald's life but shortly after she resumed her bitter attitude. Emerald tried her best to turn Ruby into a good person like her, but she failed. Throughout her childhood, Emerald had a talent in music and drama at school. She received 16 awards throughout her school life for those subjects. Ruby was jealous and after one prize-giving evening (when Ruby was 10 and Emerald was 14), Ruby used her violent powers to destroy Emerald's trophy collection, when she had 10 trophies at the time. Fortunately Emerald was very skilled in repairing and managed to fix her collection.When Ruby was 15 and Emerald was 19, Sango Ocean was split into the two regions following the death of the sisters' father. All of the more bitter mermaids resided in the region now known as Kanashimi, as the darker and desolate environment attracted them. The kinder and optimistic mermaids turned to the Alegria region. Eventually a war broke out, that created official borders dividing the two regions. Each region then developed its own customs and laws, differentiating itself from the other. Eventually a queen was chosen for each region, which was Emerald for Alegria.
